I precinct Walked for my 1st time - I participated in the political system
This is what social change looks like people - waking up at 6am on sunday to go precinct walking and jumping. This precinct walk was organized by my favorite SD community organization - JOB - Justic Overcoming Boundaries. Thanks Norma for catching me online and introducing me to Pedro!
We made major social change happen - can't you tell from watching this video? Tanya and I walked around in the depths of Escondido (one of california's most anti-immigrant anti-Latino cities) reminding groggy latinos at 8am in the morn with big ass pitbulls to vote - NOT easy! The terrain of Escondido was also treacherous - hilly streets and empty lots didn't make it easy to walk or drive around!
We were handed a horrific mapquest grid of the houses of newly registered Latino voters. Sadly, many houses were sold. So we didn't talk to as many people as we woudl've liked to speak to. Next time this is organized - please please use google maps! preferrably Google Earth.
Well Obama will win and then he will thank Tanya and I for all the latino votes we secured for him. But the sacrifcies that we made for those 3 hours were worth it. This was my first time doing this and I can't imagine when I will ever feel so compelled to participate in this way for any election ever again in my lifetime -unless the presidential candidate is someone I believe in again - and the chance of that happening - well I don't know. My only goal now is pray that obama stays alive. i'm so scared that an fundamentalist christian psycho is going to kennedy him. Too many people in the country are not ready for a mixed-background president - he's is a mix of classes, professions and races. GO OBAMA!
