Here's another kind of response from the Asian community:
(from Friday's LA Times)
On Wednesday, Jin, a New York rapper of Chinese American descent, posted "Rain Rain Go Away (Virginia Tech Tribute)" at the XXL magazine website, www.xxlmag.com/online/?p=9306. The song serves as a real-time response to Monday's events, with the MC rhyming about his disbelief and sadness as he watched the tragedy unfold on CNN.

There's always people out there trying to subvert a tragedy into a cause of some sort.

Hello Tricia, I came across your entry when I was looking up information of the Virginia Tech shooter to see if racism was one of the reasons that fueled this man to do this. As a "minority" in this country a Hispanic young man I have seen my share of racism from many white Americans, from the media, at school, at work etc. I very much agree and applaud your entry because you make many valid points and point out issues about some of these Asian American non profit. organizations that I never really knew about. I wholeheartedly agree with you on how unprofessional and ignorant the media reported this incident. The first thing that caught my eye when I watched the news about the V.A. Tech shootings was how much the media was blasting this man's ethnic background. I was like what does this have to do with anything? why do we NEED to know this person's ethnic background? I saw ASIAN, KOREAN etc. It disgusted me, after such a tragic event their goes the media with their BS and oh lets make sure the people know he was NOT white and that he was ASIAN. All my life I have always defended people who were bullied or harassed for being a different race, different weight size, or simply because they were not "cool" enough and did not fit in with the "popular" group at school. And yes even for white people that were harassed because they were white it goes both ways. Anyways, I thank you for sharing your views and opinions on issues that I very much agree with. We all need to come together and unite, their will always be a way to fight for the right of equality.

Thank you
-Jaime
